Good times are here for Lagosians as the first draw of the Lagos Home Ownership Mortgage Scheme, HOMS, produced 30 new home owners.
The draw which held at the Blue Roof, Lagos Television ground, Ikeja, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria was conducted for successful applicants who vied for 200 homes located in Abijo, Agege, Igbogbo, Odoragunshin, Ojokoro and Shitta, all in Lagos State. Out of the 322 applications received by the Lagos Mortgage Board, LMB, 98 of them were successful, 77 others could not meet the application deadline and the remaining disqualified for not meeting the qualification criteria.
Speaking at the occasion, Governor Babatunde Fashola reminded the public of Lagos State government’s commitment to address the housing deficit. The governor said the 98 qualified applicants would become new home owners as there were still 102 homes in excess for this month, stating that these would be added to 200 homes for next month, making a total of 302 houses for April draw. He further charged the beneficiaries to ensure that they take responsibility in paying the monthly mortgage and maintenance of the homes.
Governor Fashola stated that based on projections from financial experts, the scheme would be self-sustaining in the next seven years if all mortgage owners paid their dues promptly. He also disclosed that the second phase of the HOMS project would commence soon and under the second phase, the private sector would be allowed to build houses for the scheme with government buying the houses and handing it over to Lagos Mortgage Board for the mortgage scheme.
Some of the winners include Bibian Kanayo Aloba, Safurat Owoyemi, Jubril Ajayi, Gbenga Owolabi, Ganiyat Dolapo Akanni, Daniel Ikpe, Anthony Olawale, Aderenle Ayola Johnson amongst others.
