In order to tackle the problems associated with estate agency, the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers is set to inaugurate the newly formed Association of Estate Agents of Nigeria.
In a statement made available to our correspondent on Sunday, NIESV said the association was created to bridge the property demand gap and introduce best practices into estate agency, which it said had become an all comers affair.
The association, according to the statement, will be regulated by NIESV and will accommodate members from other professions.
The institution added that the association was an important step in the vision to check the activities of quacks who had created negative perception about genuine practitioners of estate agency in the country.
The statement indicated that the Director-General, Standards Organisation of Nigeria, Dr. Joseph Odumodu, would be the special guest of honour at the inauguration.
“The AEAN is the brainchild of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, and was set up to streamline the activities of estate agents and check the activities of non-professionals in the business,” the statement read in part.
The Chairman, Interim Executive of AEAN, Mr. Chudi Ubosi, said the association would liaise with the Lagos State Estate Agency Board to regulate the membership and practice with a view to developing a national template for estate agency regulation.
