Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola, has described the handingover of the 7-kilometre Ibeshe Road as a statement of fidelity by his administration. He said he has redeemed his promise to construct the road during the electioneering campaign, saying he has kept his promise.
Speaking during the handing over of the road, Governor Fashola explained that there were noticeable improvement in the economy of Ibeshe as a textile factory, new schools and new filling stations are now dotting its skyline.
Speaking on the plans of government for Ikorodu division, Fashola stated that work would soon start on a new factory Terminal/Jetty and a 720 housing units, adding that the completion of the Mile 12 Ikorodu road would ensure an improvement in the travel time on the axis.
All over the state, the governor said over 200 roads will soon be delivered across the state, urging people not to misuse or abuse public facilities within their domain. He added that government’s effort is designed to bring prosperity but having a good life lies in the hands of each community.
He urged community leaders to assist government in protecting public utilities. Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat added that the essence of constructing the road was to open up the communities in the state, saying that additional 10 roads such as Ring Road Imota, Idiatu, Sulaimon, Irewunmi, Agunfoye and Awolowo Roads will soon be handed over to the people of Ikorodu.
He stated that the road which was awarded to Messrs O.A.O Arab contractors has been built up to international standard with all the modern features such as drainage, walkway, culvert, service ducts and street light provided.
Also speaking at the event, the Olubeshe of Ibeshe, Oba Richard Abayomi Ogunsanya, thanked the government for bringing such a remarkable infrastructure to their domain. He therefore enjoined the community to desist from turning the drainages into refuse dump.
