The Lagos state government alerted its populace on the operations of fraudsters, who are now focused on defrauding unsuspecting Nigerians through the Home Ownership Mortgage Scheme (LagosHOMS).
Lagos’ Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Mr. Ade Ipaye, who disclosed this in his office, said the state is already tracking down the criminal elements with a view to prosecuting them.
He therefore urged members of the public to participate in the Lagos HOMS Programme, which he said is yet to be finalized.
Expounding on the modus operandi of the fraudsters, Ipaye said the criminal elements direct people to a website, quoted as www.nigeriapropertycentre.com/blog/buying.selling/the.lagos-homs, requesting interested individuals to visit the website in question and to begin their subscription.
According to the commissioner, these fraudsters have put in place false information in this website which was ascribed to the Lagos State Government and also requesting payment to some banks.
He said that the fraudsters also have agents to sell printed forms to innocent members of the public who seek allocation of flats under the LagosHOMS Programme.
Ipaye however distanced the Lagos state government from such information, invitation and demands’, saying that information, invitation and demands did not emanate from Lagos State Government.
‘Any persons making such demands should be reported to the nearest Police station or Law Enforcement Agency’, he noted.
He reiterated that the state in pursuit of its people oriented programmes and project, is assiduously developing housing units and a sustainable mortgage scheme under the LagosHOMS Programme.
The Attorney General further promised that full details of the LagosHOMS Programme as well as the modalities for accessing the units would be put into public domain at the appropriate time.
