An opportunity has arisen for a Managing Editor to join the 3INVEST MEDIA team. This team will be responsible for the launch and publication of 3INVEST PLUS, a top-notch magazine dedicated to re-inventing the African real estate sector.

The Managing Editor will be responsible for the content and review the magazine, and in working externally with the real estate journalist, and internally with content writers, sales and marketing. The role of Managing Editor is pivotal in ensuring that the magazine establishes itself at the lead title in this dynamic and growing industry. The successful applicant will have a mass communication background as well as excellent organisational and communication skills. Previous editorial experience is essential.

Key duties

• Manage the smooth day-to-day running of each edition of the magazine and resolve any issues that arise to maintain quality, copy flow, page budgets and production schedules.
• Build and maintain internal relationships with all those working on the magazine: Content, Marketing, Sales, Customer Services and Accounts.
• Be the primary liaison with the Publisher to monitor, maintain and improve the quality of the magazine.
• Steer the development of the magazine; investigate and develop all opportunities for growth for each edition.
• Prepare Publisher’s Reports as necessary.
• Negotiate and maintain relationships.
• Work with Sales to conceive and develop supplements, reprint and other non-subscription opportunities
• Work with business development to increase visibility and drive readership.
• Generating ideas for articles and features, commissioning features and stories from in-house writers and freelancers.
• Selecting, editing, proofreading articles for issues and planning publication contents.

 

Job requirements

• Educational Qualification: University Graduate, Second Class upper in the following fields; English, Mass communication or Journalism. Exceptional candidates with lower grades will be considered.
• Strong background and experience in magazine publications.
• Demonstrated leadership and vision in managing staff groups and projects.
• Excellent interpersonal and collaborative management style.
• A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards.
