Aso Savings and Loans Limited, a Bank committed to remaining a pivot for transformation of the Housing market and the actualization of the Government’s Vision 20:2020 Housing Goals, reached an agreement with the Niger state Government to take control of the over 224 houses at Zuma Rock housing estate in Suleja local government area of the state, with the aim to tackle the continued deterioration of the estate.
The deal is worth about N629 million.
The Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Dr. Peter Salle Sarki who announced this in Minna, the Niger State capital, after the state executive council meeting, confirmed that the houses were sold to an Abuja based estate developer, Aso Savings and Loans Limited.
Dr. Sarki said the decision to sell the houses was informed by their dilapidation of and the need to rescue them from total collapse.
He explained that the remaining 50 housing units had been previously paid for, adding that the owners have the option to retain them or sell them out to the developer.
The Commissioner recalled that the Zuma Rock housing estate was a subject brought before the Justice Aliyu Maiyaki Commission of Inquiry which looked into contracts awarded by the last administration, pointing out that the Commission recommended the recovery of N200million from the contractor that constructed the houses and termination or re-award of the contract to a new contractor.
“Government in its wisdom decided to revoke the contract after recovering the N200million from the contractor”, Peter Sarki said.
The General Manager of the Niger state Geographic Information Centre, Dr. Abdul Hussaini also at the post executive media briefing said the state will participate at the African Regional Centre of Expertise conference that will hold in Kenya in November this year.
Dr Hussaini who gave a rundown of the conference, which was held in Abuja under the sponsorship of the Niger state government last month said the objective of the conference was to bring visibility of REC to the country.
