According to Proshare For the Financial Year 2013, the Construction/Real Estate sector recorded a relatively low and unimpressive performance on the Nigerian Stock Exchange with an average return of +2.52%.
The sector which is expected to directly impact the life and living conditions of the Nigerian populace, with an aftermath effect in the result performance of firms engaging in the business,remains untapped by most investors due to its poor performance.
A delve into the monthly returns of stocks in the construction/real estate sector reveals that JBERGER recorded the highest figure with +8.97% average returns recorded,followed byUAC-PROPwhich recorded +3.15% average return.On the other hand, COSTAIN records-3.38% average returns in the year, while ARBICO recorded -1.58% negative returns to both lead from behind. ROADS and SMURFIT also recorded negative return during the period, while the remaining stocks in the sector closed flat.
